A musical Christmas gift

“Glad music fills the Christmas sky”, a carol by Michael Perry appears in the much used hymnal “Hymns for Today’s Church” (#82) but is unfortunately little used. The words can also be found online .

The folk tune “O Waly Waly” suits these words well, and I’ve created an upbeat and full-sounding accompaniment track (which includes the melody). It’s uploaded as a very high-quality mp3 which you can play from a device or burn to CD. If you use it, please do submit a comment.

Music for final Sunday of Year A

Planning for 23 November – two themes:

5 NZ Hymns for Aotearoa Sunday and 14 for the Reign of Christ have just been posted. Mix and match! Natalie Sims provided much of the content for the latter list, and Chris Harris also contributed.

Updates and Eucharistic Prayers

Updates for Jane Williams’ reflection questions and ideas are posted through until November 16. Music lists are also available for all those dates, but the 16 November is a provisional list only, music-wise. There are some really good Youtube clips.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS

Did you know that there are many Eucharistic Prayers that you can use, including those authorized by Anglican Churches around the world? For example, Bosco Peters has provided a significant collection, including ones to use with children here .

There are two from the Church of England on this page. But do note that our NZ  prayers use language which is much more inclusive!

In the Diocese of Auckland, if you are creating liturgy, say, according to the rubrics on p.511ff), your Enabler should review it before use, or you can approach a bishop directly for approval.

Resources 26 October

New material supplementing the Jane Williams reflections page is posted today, as is a list of 15 hymns and songs suitable for 26 October, when the Gospel focus is on Jesus’ twin commandments to love God and neighbour (as oneself). Jane Williams picks the life of the Thessalonians as her focus, so the hymns also consider the life of faith as we experience it together.

Updates today for 12 October

Jane Williams Reflection questions/activities updated today, as well as the hymns and songs page. We’ve focused on the banquet imagery this week.

Our Local Shared Ministry Conference is nearly upon us. If you are attending we will be introducing the above resources at one of the sessions and would be pleased to hear from anyone who has been making use of them, and how that has been working (or not!).

We have a couple of people lined up for that purpose, but more comments will be welcome.

Updates for 5 October

RCL Hymns and songs page, and Jane Williams reflections page are both updated today for 5 October. Apologies for delay due to illness.

We would appreciate prayer for our annual LSM conference which begins on October 3.

One of the things we plan to do is to record demo tracks of new hymn and song material that attendees will be able to use to introduce them easily to their congregations.
