New material supplementing the Jane Williams reflections page is posted today, as is a list of 15 hymns and songs suitable for 26 October, when the Gospel focus is on Jesus’ twin commandments to love God and neighbour (as oneself). Jane Williams picks the life of the Thessalonians as her focus, so the hymns also consider the life of faith as we experience it together.
Jane Williams’ reflections for 19 October are concerned entirely with the Gospel passage. This reading is the Pharisees’ intended trap for Jesus regarding payment of the census tax and his answer to them.
The questions provided are intended to help each listener to consider how their lives respond to both the state and the call of God to be active in giving “to God what belongs to God”.
(But note that the hymns and songs page utilises all the readings for the day).
Jane Williams Reflection questions/activities updated today, as well as the hymns and songs page. We’ve focused on the banquet imagery this week.
Our Local Shared Ministry Conference is nearly upon us. If you are attending we will be introducing the above resources at one of the sessions and would be pleased to hear from anyone who has been making use of them, and how that has been working (or not!).
We have a couple of people lined up for that purpose, but more comments will be welcome.
RCL Hymns and songs page, and Jane Williams reflections page are both updated today for 5 October. Apologies for delay due to illness.
We would appreciate prayer for our annual LSM conference which begins on October 3.
One of the things we plan to do is to record demo tracks of new hymn and song material that attendees will be able to use to introduce them easily to their congregations.
Regular updates have just been added for Sunday 28 September (Jane Williams reflections, Hymn and Song suggestions).
Bosco Peters is publishing some new collects in the traditional format, but with fresh language. You are welcome to use them in worship, or print them with acknowledgement:
Updates are available for 21 September in Jane Williams Reflections & Lectionary Hymns and Songs.
Also a plug for Cantus Mundi (Showcasing Christian music from around the world). The tags provide a wealth of material on themes you might be looking for. Everything seems to be performance videos with texts. Check it out!
Jane Williams reflections and hymn and song selection pages (top right) are updated today for September 14.
With another anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the week before, it might be appropriate to pray for all victims and perpetrators of terrorism, and for the peace of Christ to be grown in our lives and in our nations.
Our local LSMUs: Have you registered for next month’s conference yet?
